The film takes us to 1940s France, where Jean Chevalin, played by Benoît Poelvoorde, lives in poverty with his family after deserting the army. Convinced that some people are better off, Jean decides to pose as a Jew, hoping to receive help from smugglers and reach the free zone. This deception leads to a series of misunderstandings and revelations that deeply transform Jean and his family's view of the world. La Bonne Étoile promises a rich and nuanced reflection on prejudice and stereotypes, as it takes the characters on a journey that gradually dismantles their preconceived notions.
