Muganga: a powerful film about Dr. Denis Mukwege’s fight

Marie-Hélène Roux’s feature shines a light on “the man who mends women,” Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and earned awards at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival.

Muganga, directed by Marie-Hélène Roux, tells the story of Dr. Denis Mukwege, portrayed by Isaach de Bankolé. The Congolese physician, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018, has dedicated his life to treating women who are victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The film also features Vincent Macaigne as surgeon Guy Cadière, who joins Mukwege in his humanitarian mission. At the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, Muganga received the Audience Award and the Best Actor Prize for Isaach de Bankolé. The film was released in France on September 24th.
