It's February in Paris. Patrick, 40 years old, divorced, historian and lecturer, has just received one of the most important awards in his profession. Unfortunately, his satisfaction is short-lived when he learns that his mother, who lives in the Antilles, is on the point of dying. So, accompanied by his 12-year-old daughter Alice, he hurries off to Martinique. After being away for 30 years, two surprises await him there: the carnival is in full swing and his mother's body has disappeared. It is alongside Zamba, his childhood friend, self-proclaimed king of the carnival, and on an island filled with colours, that Patrick embarks on a search that is both incredible and mystical: for his mother and for himself.
